Vint Cerf, Google’s Chief Internet Evangelist is to share his insights with Scottish school pupils at a ScotlandIS event in August.
“ Today most young people can’t imagine life without the internet, yet only thirty years ago hardly anybody had heard of it.
Five people shaped the internet, Tim Berners Lee, Marc Andreessen, Robert Kahn, Louis Pouzin, and Dr Vint Cerf. This June these five will receive the Queen Elizabeth II Prize for Engineering, a worldwide award.”
ScotlandIS is delighted to be hosting a ‘Discussion with Vint Cerf’ specifically aimed at secondary school pupils on 29th August 2013 in Edinburgh. This is an exceptional opportunity for young people with an interest in computing to meet with Vint, share his insights and raise their questions and challenges with him. The debate will be chaired by Graeme Gordon, CEO of Managed Service Provider IFB and a board member of ScotlandIS.
The aim is to include as many school pupils as possible and ScotlandIS are offering Scottish Secondary schools 3 places for 2 students and 1 responsible adult to attend the ‘Discussion’ (students should be between S3-S6). The ‘Discussion’ will take place at the Sheraton Grand Hotel, starting at 10.00am and finishing at 11.30am, and we are working with Computing at Schools (http://www.computingatschool.org.uk/index.php?id=cas-scotland) to ensure this will be a successful event for all schools involved. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis, to register delegates from your school please call Karen Meechan on 01506 472200 or email karen.meechan@scotlandis.com with the students names, school, name of the responsible adult and relevant email address. We will come back to students for questions they would like put to Dr Cerf.
