Events coming up soon

Lots of exciting things happening in Scotland soon!

First of all, we’ve finally got the first meeting of the CAS Edinburgh Hub organised. We will have a talk from Michael Walmsley, the creator of CodeAvengers. This is taking place on Tuesday 18th June, 5-7pm at Microsoft Edinburgh (Waverley Gate, the location of the CAS Scotland conference last year). Everyone welcome, please sign up for free at Eventbrite.

Also at Microsoft, we have organised a regular Innovative and Creative Technology in Education (ICTEd) group in Edinburgh. The first meeting is on Tuesday 25th June, 5-8pm. There meetings are aimed at all teachers not just Computing teachers, and anyone else in fact! In the opening session we will explore how technology can be used as a learning tool. A general overview of some of the most effective types of technology from podcasting and animation to web 2.0 and games-based learning. The event is free, please book through Meetup.  Please come along and bring a non-Computing teacher from your school!

Also in Edinburgh, Hacklab are running an Ardunio workshop at Summerhall on 22nd June, 11-5pm. No previous electronics or programming experience is required. More details and signup on their event page. There is likely to be a high demand for places so it’s worth booking as soon as you can. There is a cost but it can include an Arduino kit and it is very good value for money for a full day’s CPD.

In Glasgow, Maklab are running workshops on Blender, Arduino, Linux and Python/Raspberry Pi throughout this month. More details are on their web page.  Hack labs like Edinburgh Hacklab and Glasgow’s Maklab are great places to share, learn and also use equipment such as 3D printers.
