Invitation to attend new PLAN C Edinburgh Central hub meeting, Jan 14th 2015

PLAN C (Professional Learning and Networking for Computing) is a free-of-charge Scottish Government-funded programme of professional learning for all Computing Science teachers in Scotland. It provides support for the teaching of National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher Computing Science qualifications and computational thinking in the broad general education phase (see attached brochure). Plan C also counts towards Professional Update!

PLAN C explores current methods of teaching computing and builds on the latest CS education research that helps us to understand why certain concepts can be difficult for some of our pupils to understand and apply and, crucially, what we can do about it. The local hub structure is also a great way to draw people together to share experiences and ideas – invaluable in these early years of new NQs.

A network of local hubs has been set up across Scotland; however, the North and South Edinburgh hubs typically meet on Friday afternoons when non-state schools are teaching, making it difficult for those schools to attend. To that end, we’ve received PLAN C lead teacher training and have set up a new Edinburgh Central hub, open to all Computing teachers, that will meet at the end of normal teaching days.

The first meeting takes place on January 14th at George Watson’s College from 1545 – 1800. To register, please go to http://www.cas.scot/takepart/ , selecting Local Hub 29 – Edinburgh Central.

Please forward this email to anyone you think may be interested and we look forward to seeing you at Watson’s on the 14th!

Best wishes,
Jeremy Scott & David Proudfoot
