Nesta One Day Digital digital creatvity CPD in Edinburgh on Saturday 23rd November

Hello,

Nesta is organising a series of One Day Digital- CPD events for teachers interested in Digital Making. The sessions take place next Saturday 23rd November at the School of Informatics in Edinburgh University. Check them out at http://onedaydigital.eventbrite.com if you haven’t already seen these.

We still have some spaces on some of our workshops so you can still sign up to learn about mobile app development (Livecode and AppInventor), 3D printing and Processing (if you want to learn more about this cool visual programming language have a look here: https://vimeo.com/63234501). We’ve also managed to release a few spaces on the popular Coderdojo workshops.

We’re very excited to announce a couple of new sessions. A workshop on using Arduino has just been added (including a free Arduino kit for each delegate!) and Mozilla will be running their workshop on web making skills only in Edinburgh! The session descriptions are below.

LEARN HOW TO USE ARDUINO AND LEAVE WITH THE KIT FREE TO YOU!

One of the largest challenges faced by learners of computer programming is the abstract nature of task. Physical Computing is computing beyond the mouse, monitor and keyboard. This gives learners and teachers the opportunity to make programming concrete and tactile. In this session we shall start from the beginning and progress through a number of Arduino projects that will intrigue and inspire a range of computational learning. Making multi sensory interactive physical objects and taking the code off the screen and into learners hands creates an immensely powerful learning experience. In addition to this each teacher will receive a free Arduino starter kit to take home to use in their school.Places limited- so sign up now. Suitable for any level of ability. See below for further info.

WEBMAKER AND VIDEO EDITING TOOLS WITH DOUG BELSHAW FROM MOZILLA

The Web is the world’s largest free public resource. Do you feel confident in teaching your students about how to read, write and participate on the Web? In this workshop, Doug Belshaw from the Mozilla Foundation (the people behind the Firefox web browser) will introduce some free Webmaker tools that you can use in your teaching. You will also learn how to use Popcorn, a free and open video editing tool. You can make videos to educate your pupils or get your pupils creating campaign videos or short films to revise a topic.
Suitable for: Secondary teachers of all subjects at all levels.

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday!
